MoDOT to close I-170 July 8-11 for Delmar bridge construction

Ladue Drivers will need an alternative route on those dates.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Millstone Bangert, Inc., will close Interstate 170 near the Delmar Boulevard Bridge starting at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 to construct portions of the new bridge.

All lanes of the interstate will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 11. Traffic on the interstate will be detoured up the ramps at Delmar and back onto the interstate while the roadway is closed.

Traffic on the interstate will not be able to access Delmar Boulevard during the closure, nor will traffic on Delmar be able to access I-170 in either direction. Detours are marked, and drivers can use Price Road and Hanley Road to get to Olive Boulevard to access I-170. Traffic levels on both the interstate and the detour routes are expected to be high; drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible or use other routes.

MoDOT is urging drivers to avoid the area next weekend if possible, but the following detours will be in place:

  • Through traffic on northbound and southbound I-170 will be routed across the entrance and exit ramps.
  • Drivers on Delmar east of the bridge who want to get onto I-170 northbound will take either Hanley or North and South to Olive, and access the interstate from Olive.
  • Drivers on Delmar east of the bridge who want to get on I-170 southbound will take Hanley to Maryland (which turns into Ladue) and access the interstate from Ladue.
  • Drivers on Delmar west of the bridge who want to get onto I-170 northbound will take Price to Olive and access the interstate from Olive.
  • Drivers on Delmar west of the bridge who want to get on I-170 southbound will take Price to Ladue and access the interstate from Ladue.

While the interstate is closed, crews will be setting girders and installing portions of the driving surface.

This work is part of a $2.1 million dollar project to replace the Delmar Boulevard Bridge.  Although the bridge was already scheduled for replacement this year, MoDOT closed it April 25, after an inspection showed the bridge had become unsafe for public use. Construction has been underway since May 20.  The bridge is scheduled to reopen by September 1.
