Ladue & Frontenac Spared Brunt of the Storm

The Phil Brusca & Connie Strobach Track Meet at Ladue Called Off; the Annual Burroughs Potpourri Garage Sale Indoors Very Much On.

Thankfully, the Ladue and Frontenac areas were spared any major damage from the more than 14 tornadoes that strafed the St. Louis region at around 8 p.m. last night.

Police dispatchers in both Ladue and Frontenac reported no damages to property or persons in the two communities.

At nine this morning, Keith Harder, head track coach at Ladue High had to send athletes from 44 teams home from the annual Phil Brusca and Connie Strobach Track meet. "We've just had such a rough spring, and now this," said Harter, pointing towards the heavens and the dark ominous rain clouds dropping more moisture on the complex.

"We had no choice but to call this off," he said. The weather was weighing heavily on the minds of athletes who were bused to the meet from Jennings, Berkeley, St. Charles County and other areas hard hit by the storm.

Reaction was mixed. Everyone departed the all weather track area disappointed. There was just too much mud in the throwing and jumping areas to continue going on.

Most disappointed were teams that commuted more than 100 miles away from Jefferson City and Columbia.

Meanwhile the annual Potpourri Garage Sale at John Burroughs was ago. Lengthy lines were formed by opening at 7:30 a.m. Spirited customers were dodging the rain drops, taking their purchases to their vehicles to be transported home.

Organizers of the annual event were most proud the weather did not deter the indoor activities. Legions of workers were wrapped in rain gear, guiding the traffic around Price and Clayton roads surrounding the Burroughs sprawling campus.

Here is a video review of what was called and what went on following the aftermath of one of St. Louis' biggest storms in recent memory.
