Jazz, Wine and Cheese Equal An Entertaining Evening

Great Escape: B'nai El Congregation's 8th annual "Sound Bites" event is just the escape you need to unwind.

Need a break from Spring Break? Are you ready to kick back and enjoy the sounds of smooth jazz and the tastes of smooth wines?

Then you need to attend “Sound Bites” at B’nai El Congregation on Saturday, March 26, 7 p.m. Featuring the intoxicating music of the Eddie Randle Jr. Trio with vocalist Thomasina Clarke, this event combines jazz with wine from St. James Winery and cheese courtesy of Hautly Cheese Company.

“In between sets, attendees will learn from the representatives from St. James and Hautly about their wines and cheeses,” Buddy Loebner, event chair, said. “They have paired wines and cheeses together so they’ll also be explaining why they chose the pairings.” Instead of having to go to a buffet table to get the samples, attendees will be served table-side. Loebner said you can expect a nightclub-like atmosphere including a dance floor.

Eddie Randle Jr. is a well-known jazz musician whose talents have earned him a place in the St. Louis Jazz Honor Roll. His ensembles can be heard at many fine venues in the area. Thomasina Clarke was the 2008 Kevin Kline nominee for “Best Supporting Actress.”

Loebner said there will be two presentations and attendees can expect to taste around six to eight wines. The wines will not be available for purchase that night; they will only be available for tasting. In addition, there will be opportunities to win door prizes such as bottles of wine and gift certificates.

“This is an inexpensive and enjoyable evening of jazz, wine and cheese,” Loebner said. “You can sit and listen to the music or get up and dance. In any case, it’s cheaper than going to the movies.”

Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. Guests must be 21 and older. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (314) 432-6393.
