House Hunt in Ladue and Frontenac

Two ranch-style homes have plenty to offer.

This week, we're visiting two ranch homes, one in Ladue and one in Frontenac. From tried-and-true design, these are sometimes referred to midcentury modern depicting the style of a single floor plan on a large footprint. With the value of land and the economics of tear-downs, these classics are in shorter supply. Builders are not building these sprawling, comfortable, convenient homes. Here is an opportunity to see how two of these gems have been updated to today’s standards.

First up is 5 Ladue Forest, listed by Mary Yeager of Prudential Alliance Realtors for $639,000. Mature trees and a secluded setting overlooking wooded areas make this a comfortable getaway. There is an enormous 65-foot-long section of the home covered with a pergola, which is surrounded by landscaped plating beds. The interior is completely renovated from its midcentury roots. An updated kitchen with granite countertops and upscale appliances is bright with plenty of workspace. Newer Pella casement windows and Andersen French doors efficiently keep out the heat on these hot St. Louis summer days. If it’s too hot you can enjoy the summer from inside the sunroom. Three bedrooms and 2.5 baths complete the picture. For a private tour call Mary at 314-997-7600

Next up into Frontenac to 5 Glen Abbey Dr., where Stephen Gruszka of Prudential Alliance Realtors has this four bedroom, three bath home listed for $525,000. This is another sprawling open ranch with many updates. A newer kitchen remodel features granite countertops and custom cabinets. There is a double-sided fireplace shared by the living room and family room. The basement provides large finished area suitable for entertainment as well as a recreation or game room. Outdoors is a large brick patio with raised brick planting beds that look out to mature trees on a large backyard. To arrange a visit call Stephen at 314-997-7600.
