Get Out And Help The Community Recover From The Storms

Area organizations have created events and donation opportunities to benefit the residents of storm-damaged communities.

This week’s Get Out takes a detour from our usual list of fun things to do in the coming week and instead focuses on activities you can do to help out our area’s residents who have been affected by last week’s tornadoes and storms.

School Fundraiser
The students of the Disaster Relief Club at Saul Mirowitz Day School–Reform Jewish Academy are holding a benefit for school families to raise money for storm victims. For a donation, attendees will watch the popular movie Toy Story 3. As a special treat, they will hear a personal message from the director of the movie, Lee Unkrich.

Financial Collection
The homes of two employees of the Ladue School District, one in Bridgeton the other in Maryland Heights, suffered significant tornado damage so the district is collecting monetary donations over the next week. The final total will be split between both employees. While contribution efforts are targeted to parents and employees, anyone interested in making a donation is welcome to do so.

Mail or bring your contribution to a Ladue school’s office secretary. Make checks payable to Ladue School District.

Volunteering And Donating
Where/When: Service International, a local disaster relief organization, is looking for volunteers and items. To volunteer, register at the organization’s Base of Operations trailer in the parking lot of Grace Church, 2695 Creve Coeur Mill Rd. (corner of McKelvey and Creve Coeur Mill Roads) in Maryland Heights. The organization needs work gloves and packaged lunches (nothing that requires assembly or heating) for volunteers.
More information about volunteering: Visit Service International.

Clothing, Food and Toiletry Drives
