Chillax And Chill Out At Chill Frozen Yogurt

A new frozen yogurt store, featuring homemade specialties, has opened in Ladue.

Chill Frozen Yogurt, a locally-owned store featuring 50 different flavors that are rotated every couple weeks, has opened a new store in Ladue at 9793 Clayton Road.

According to Liz Summers, who handles public relations for Chill, what sets this eatery apart from the competition is that Chill’s frozen yogurt is made at a local dairy and is delivered fresh four times a week to the store; nothing is ever prepackaged or frozen.

“You’ll taste the difference,” Summers said. “Our yogurt has a lighter taste and is not as heavily flavored as the competition.”

In addition to locally-made yogurt, Chill features homemade hot fudge sauce from a family recipe, homemade sea salt caramel and sorbets. Toppings include fresh fruit, nuts, candies, fruit puree and freshly-shaved Callebaut chocolate. The store also sells bottled water and it’s branded T-shirts.

Chill was created by, and is owned by, Bill and Amy Koman, of The Koman Group, and their daughters Nicole, Laine and Blair. The first store opened last year in Clayton and the second one opened in April of this year in Des Peres. The Koman’s third store, in Ladue in the former site of The Little Black Dress, was selected because of the nearby neighborhoods.

“Our business model has always supported the walk-up, neighborhood atmosphere,” Summers said.

Bill is a cancer survivor who heads up Pedal the Cause for the Siteman Cancer Center. So he has married his passion for fighting cancer with his business by donating a portion of proceeds from all three stores to Friends of Kids with Cancer. In addition, recently the Ladue store supported the parents’ associations of Ladue grade schools by donating 10 percent of sales.

While the Komans are Clayton natives, they recently moved to California but come back monthly for work and charity work. During their visits, Summers said everyone gets together for tastings of new flavors.

“Our most popular flavors are cake batter, blackberry, red velvet cake and tart,” she said. “Another huge hit is our blood orange sorbet. In colder weather we bring out Spicy Aztec Mexican Hot Chocolate yogurt. We have so many flavors we have to rotate them around.”

In coming weeks, Summers said customers can look for wild blueberries, cookies ‘n cream and latte frozen yogurts along with peach ginger sorbet. The flavors that stay constant are dark chocolate, vanilla bean, tart, and no-sugar chocolate made with Aspartame. Menu items are also available on Chill’s Facebook page: Chill Frozen Yogurt.

The frozen yogurt is available in 16- and 20-ounce cups at .43 cents per ounce. The store’s hours are: Sunday—Thursday, noon—10 p.m. Friday—Saturday, noon—11 p.m. Phone number is (314) 872-9090.
