Nev Schulman, star of 'Catfish' documentary, to speak at UMSL

In the 2010 documentary “Catfish,” Nev Schulman famously tracked down the online paramour who had duped him into a cyber relationship. The film spawned an MTV reality series and solidified the term “catfish” in the American lexicon as a person who pretends to be someone they’re not, using social media to create a false identity, particularly to pursue deceitful online romances.

Schulman will speak about his experiences and perspectives on this evolving medium of social media at 7 p.m. Sept 25 in the Century Rooms of the Millennium Student Center at the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

UMSL student tickets cost $5, with a limit of four per valid UMSL ID. To receive the student price, tickets must be purchased in the Office of Student Life, 366 Millennium Student Center. General admission tickets cost $15. Tickets may be purchased online at umslstudentlife.ticketleap.com/nev-schulman/.
