MICDS SOPHOMORE LACROSSE STAR COMMITS TO GEORGETOWN

MICDS faceoff player Alex Bean ‘16 has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Georgetown University.

After considering the University of North Carolina, Denver, Boston University and a few others, he decided on the Hoyas. According to Bean, Georgetown will provide him with the opportunity to attend one of the best academic schools in the nation while playing great college lacrosse.

“From academics to the coaching staff to the campus – everything is top-notch,” said Bean.  “I wanted to play great lacrosse in college while earning my degree and building connections for life.  Georgetown fits that mold in every way.”

According to head Varsity Lacrosse Coach Andy Kay, Alex will be a great addition to the Hoyas. He plays hard and is driven to succeed.

“Alex has proven himself locally as well as on the national scene and is certainly the most heavily recruited player to ever come out of MICDS, if not the state of Missouri,” he said. “When you pair Alex's hand speed and power with his grit and determination, it makes him extremely formidable at the face off position.”

The 2014 Lacrosse season kicks off in March and the MICDS team will boast two standout sophomores who have committed to play at the D1 Collegiate level.

“We are extremely excited for Alex. Georgetown is a phenomenal school and it is a thrill to know that we have another D1 player on our MICDS team for the next three seasons,” said Coach Kay.

Bean, who intends to pursue a degree in Business, has enjoyed the recruiting process and getting to know the coaching staff at Georgetown.

“There is so much to admire about Georgetown. I am excited to play for Coach Warne and his staff – they have made such amazing progress the last few years,” he said.  “I am definitely excited to be a part of the Hoyas rise back to the top of the college lacrosse scene.”

In addition to playing Varsity Lacrosse, Alex has been named Blue Chip 225 All Star, been a member of the Chicago Cup All Stars and Ohio State Team Camp All Stars.

Under Coach Kay's tutelage, the Varsity Lacrosse program has enjoyed great success and has been elevated to the national stage.  Alex Bean is the second Varsity Lacrosse Player this year to sign with a D1 school.  Matt Trowbridge ‘16 committed to Michigan earlier this fall.

The MICDS Varsity Lacrosse program has made two trips to the State Finals and two trips to the Final Four in the last four years.
