Miriam To Offer Learning Center Services for Area Families

Miriam Learning Center has received a grant to support area families with learning disabilities screenings through a grant from the Cornelsen Family Charitable Foundation.

Sometimes it can be hard to obtain services to diagnose a learning disability. Further, it can be difficult for area parents to know where to turn.

Recently, the Miriam Foundation announced the establishment of the Cornelsen Diagnostic Center, which will enable Miriam Learning Center (MLC) to provide free and reduced-cost assessment services for children who do not qualify for testing in the school setting and have limited resources to access private assessment services.

Established with a $100,000 grant by the Cornelsen Family Charitable Foundation, the Cornelsen Diagnostic Center will be an integral part of Miriam Foundation as a “one stop shop” for learning disability resources and services in the St. Louis region.

“Through comprehensive evaluations, parents are provided a pathway to help their child become more successful,” explained Beth Rose, Director of Miriam Learning Center. “These assessments are needed to aid in diagnosing learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, speech language delays, sensory integration disorder, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues that may impact a student’s learning and functioning at home, in school, and within the community.”

The Cornelsen Diagnostic Center will provide comprehensive educational evaluations, psychological assessments, and occupational and speech/language evaluations for children with learning challenges.  Partial and full scholarships are available to families who demonstrate financial need and do not qualify for testing through other resources.
