At same meeting, new mayor, council members will take oath of office.
At the Ladue City Council meeting this afternoon, the meeting will be suspended long enough for the new mayor and council members to be sworn in. Actually, this is a ceremonial gesture. They were sworn in several weeks ago, once the April 2 election was certified. At this meeting, the council will offer special recognition to outgoing Mayor Anthony Bommarito. Monday, the council will accept a $90,000 grant from FEMA-Department of Homeland security to purchase three heat monitors/defibrillators. Pulte Homes has petitioned the city council to plat the piece of ground at Conway and Lindbergh Boulevard to build a new subdivision. The Missouri Department of Transportation reports its St. Louis work zones for May 16-22.
The Senior PGA golf tournament comes to St. Louis and it will include road closures beginning next week. Route AB (Ladue Road) will be closed between Route 141 and Mason Road from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 21 through Sunday, May 26. Mason Road will also be closed during these same hours and days from West Wailing to Ladue Road. The Missouri Department of Transportation will have lane closures on a few interstates this weekend. Two lanes will be closed on southbound I-170 at Route 180 (St. Charles Rock Road) at 9 p.m. Friday, May 17 to perform preventative maintenance on the I-170 bridge over Route 180. Ryan Fogle, the U.S. diplomat being detained in Russia, attended Mary Institute Country Day School, KTRS reports. He's reportedly accused of being an undercover CIA agent.
According to KTRS, Ryan C. Fogle is a U.S. diplomat from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow who attended Mary Institute Country Day School and graduated in 2002. Fogle was detained in Russia during the overnight hours from Monday to Tuesday. The KTRS report states that Fogle is accused of being an undercover Central Intelligence Agency officer attempting to recruit a member of the Russian intelligence services. Fogle was released to U.S. diplomats, Russia's Federal Security Service reported, according to KTRS. (Read the complete KTRS report and see photos here.) The Missouri Department of Transportation reports the St. Louis Work zones for May 9-15.
MoDOT's maintenance crews are continuing to work daily on touching up striping on state roads around the region. Drivers should be aware of slow moving maintenance operations on roadways as crews continue to work on putting on a new coat of paint. When drivers see a MoDOT vehicle with flashing lights, they should remember to slow down or move over to avoid the work ahead. Often three or more maintenance vehicles will be spaced out over some distance to complete maintenance work. In St. Louis County, blasting operations on southbound I-270 near Big Bend is scheduled weekdays at 1 p.m., and will continue weekly, weather permitting. On April 2, Council member Nancy Spewak was elected the 11th Mayor of the City of Ladue. Spewak owns Property Enhancements, an interior design and home-staging firm. She is married to Dr. Bob Spewak, a pediatrician who’s practiced childhood medicine in St. Louis Hills for more than 30 years. Spewak grew up in Ladue on Terry Lane at the corner of Dielman and Ladue Road and graduated from Ladue High School and the University of Arizona. Dispute is over the size of signs at the Colonial MarketPlace in Ladue.
The DESCO Group will be before the Ladue Zoning Board of Adjustment today in City Hall at 4 p.m. appealing the ordinance on the size of signs above their stores. Ladue's ordinance calls for a maximum of 12 feet; DESCO wants uniform sizes of 24 feet. The issue is over the size of the backdrop of the signs. DESCO's signs are 12 feet for each tenant in the new center, but a shaded background, highlighting those names is under dispute. Presently, an array of temporary signs are marking the tenant locations at the MarketPlace.
