At same meeting, new mayor, council members will take oath of office.
At the Ladue City Council meeting this afternoon, the meeting will be suspended long enough for the new mayor and council members to be sworn in. Actually, this is a ceremonial gesture. Monday, the council will accept a $90,000 grant from FEMA-Department of Homeland security to purchase three heat monitors/defibrillators. Pulte Homes has petitioned the city council to plat the piece of ground at Conway and Lindbergh Boulevard to build a new subdivision. The Missouri Department of Transportation reports the St. Louis Work zones for May 9-15.
MoDOT's maintenance crews are continuing to work daily on touching up striping on state roads around the region. Drivers should be aware of slow moving maintenance operations on roadways as crews continue to work on putting on a new coat of paint. When drivers see a MoDOT vehicle with flashing lights, they should remember to slow down or move over to avoid the work ahead. Often three or more maintenance vehicles will be spaced out over some distance to complete maintenance work. Nancy Spewak gets into the business aspects of running a highly-successful suburban community.
Yesterday, Spewak talked about her views concerning city leadership. Today, she gets down to the nitty gritty of working with developers, getting things done while moving the City forward. Patch: Does the Mayor get involved in any business development projects for the city? Spewak: As the Mayor, I would offer the city’s help in any way we can to a land owner or property landlord to hear from the mayor and the council the benefits of locating in Ladue. I think it is very important for the City of Ladue to be business friendly but what with that being said, we are not interested in increasing the footprint of our retail space. We have limited retail space, and we want to enhance what we have. The city obviously listens to all ideas, but it …

Jay Williamson & Joe Bannister want to bring ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer and field hockey to 25 acres of unused space.
Jay Williamson, graduate of John Burroughs and Ladue resident returned from the PGA golf tour a year ago for several reasons. He’s spent 24 years playing professional golf, some 15 on the PGA tour. Now, it was time to spend more time with the family with three young children; begin a business career and follow another dream he’d been working on for some time. Williamson, and business partner Joe Bannister of Webster Groves have designs on bringing indoor ice hockey; outdoor lacrosse, soccer and field hockey to Olivette. The duo eye the 25-acre piece of unused ground at Warson Park in Olivette. From this non-used property would rise a twin ice rink; outdoor artificial multi purpose use fields for the fastest growing sports in America (…

Dispute is over the size of signs at the Colonial MarketPlace in Ladue.
The DESCO Group will be before the Ladue Zoning Board of Adjustment today in City Hall at 4 p.m. appealing the ordinance on the size of signs above their stores. Ladue's ordinance calls for a maximum of 12 feet; DESCO wants uniform sizes of 24 feet. The issue is over the size of the backdrop of the signs. DESCO's signs are 12 feet for each tenant in the new center, but a shaded background, highlighting those names is under dispute. Presently, an array of temporary signs are marking the tenant locations at the MarketPlace. AT the ZBA meeting, Summers Compton Wells PC, a full service law firm at 8909 Ladue Rd. is requesting relief from the Building Offical who declined to issue an ordinanance to relocate the parking lot entrance for the …
