Interviews with local high school coaches
Tim Twellman is anxious to get his soccer team onto the field. Most practices have been in the gym with snow, rain and sleet cutting out outdoor practice. The Saints were 12-6-1, but lost their first game in the district tournament last year. In the Coaches Corner, Twellman talks about what experiences he brings to the program; how much the parents like the sport; and the schedule he has for his 2013 squad. Let's hear from Villa coach Tim Twellman.
The MICDS Rams have a new playing field with synthetic turf; a new attitude and  goal of topping last year's 10-14 mark. Veteran skipper Peter Jans goes on camera to talk about his lineup; practicing in the gym and the opportunity to go for the state playoffs which conclude at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon this spring. Go one-on-one with the Rams' Peter Jans.
The Ladue Rams have featured a strong track program the last several years. Though hurdling star Jehu Chesson is gone to play football at Michigan, plenty of talent returns. In the Coaches Corner, Keith Harder, the head man talks about the strength of the program, the number of kids out and the popularity of the Brusca-Strobach Track Meet, hosted at Ladue annually.
Andy Kay, teacher and former dean at MICDS has brought a passion for the game of Lacrosse to the Rams program. He works extra hard to gain exposure for his talented athletes. Last winter, he organized and hosted a clinic so the top teams in the East could come to St. Louis and learn more about the talent which exists overall in St. Louis. Kay will be taking his team to Philadelphia over the weekend to play in a challenge series and their games will be held around collegiate games. Kay talks about developing his program, where sports fits in with academics and the arts at MICDS and gives us …
Veteran coach Maureen McVey has a talent-rich skilled soccer team to put on the field this spring. She returns 17 letter winners including high scoring returners Kaley Nieters (12 goals); Allie Magletta (12 goals) and Haley Kavanaugh (11) goals and an experienced goal tender Kelsey Ponder. This fall, McVey became the first female coach to be inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in its 40-year history. McVey took a turn in the Coaches' Corner to talk about her top players; the Angels challenging schedule and her feelings about going into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame.
Rob Garrett, coach of the Ladue Rams baseball team, addresses how to prepare for the season, and how to get ready when the weather outside is frightful. Prep baseball will get underway with games the last week of March. We encourage our Patch readers to both suggest coaches they would like to see be interviewed, and to offer questions they would like answered.
