Valentine's Day Gift Guide
Find great gift items for your loved ones at stores across the Ladue-Frontenac area.
Valentine's Day (February 14, for those who have trouble remembering) is just around the corner, and Ladue-Frontenac Patch has tracked down the must-have items for the people you love.
Here are the 10 must-have items for Valentine's Day 2011:
1. Handbags
Handbags make great non-traditional Valentine's Day gifts for the women in your life. Whether you get them in traditional valentine colors such as red or pink, or in the hot spring 2011 colors such as blue, coral or white, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue at Plaza Frontenac have the ladies covered.
At Neiman Marcus, public relations manager Ellen Soule and some associates pulled a few bags: a bright blue Prada shoulder bag ($1,395), a pink Prada tote ($1,495), a white Prada clutch ($1,650), a multi-colored Nancy Gonzalez tote ($2,200), a teal Bottega Veneta bag ($1,980) and a white printed Diane von Furstenberg tote ($195).
At Saks, marketing director Colleen O'Neill suggested the Jimmy Choo handbags, including one medium-sized red bag ($695). They also had a great white Mark Cross clutch ($295) and a tan Badgley Mischka clutch ($235).
2. Jewelry
Whether you're looking for something traditional like a heart-shaped necklace or red bracelet, or something to suite your special someone's specific style, area stores have what you're looking for this Valentine's Day.
Mandel's Jewelry is featuring a selection of necklaces with diamond heart-shaped pendants ($875-$3,500) for those looking for the traditional Valentine's Day jewelry.
Albarre Jewelry has a variety of unique jewelry, including a selection of Elyssa Bass bracelets ($163 each) and a few pieces by Sara Blaine ($75-$275).
Neiman Marcus has a great selection of David Yurman sterling silver rings ($950-$1,550), which are stunning pieces of jewelry for the lucky lady in your life.
Saks has a great selection of Marco Bicego bracelets, ranging in price from $2,900 to $12,250. They also have some cute necklaces from Roberto Coin's Tiny Treasures collection ($300-$2,600), which feature jeweled animals such as a penguin or a panda bear.
For men who are looking for a little shiny something, Neiman Marcus has a selection of men's bracelets that include a coral David Yurman one ($525) and a sterling silver John Hardy one ($465).
3. Flowers
Ladue Florist has a great selection of flowers available on their own or in an arrangement. For Valentine's Day, they're selling a dozen roses for $100 (plus delivery). For those looking for something that lasts longer than the typical bouquet of flowers, Ladue Florist has bulb plants ($18) available that you can plant outside later this spring.
Schnucks also has a great selection of flowers available. For Valentine's Day, floral manager Melissa Richardson says they're selling a dozen roses for $59.95, plus $10 for delivery within their standard area.
For those going for something simple in the flower department, Ken Miesner's Flowers at Plaza Frontenac offers a single rose for $5.50. For Valentine's Day, they're also offering a dozen roses for $95 (which includes a vase) plus the cost of delivery.
4. Chocolate, Candy and Confections
Ladue-Frontenac area stores also have the perfect items to keep your loved ones' sweet teeth satisfied.
Bissinger's at Plaza Frontenac has a ton of items sure to bring on a sugar rush, including chocolate-covered cookies and marshmallow hearts for $2 each. You can also get a box of 24 cookies for $28, or a box of 12 marshmallow hearts for $26. They also have the standard 22-piece heart-shaped box ($38), which is filled with chocolates from their Signature Valentine's Day Collection.
In addition to individual chocolates and confections, Fannie May at Ladue Crossing also sells a large variety of heart-shaped Valentine's Day candy boxes, ranging in price from $6.99 to $54.99. They also have red foil-covered chocolate roses for $3.99 each.
Ladue Florist also has a few different chocolate Valentine's Day items, including a box of Milk Chocolate Pecan Myrtles for $12.50.
Schnucks is selling a variety of candy gift baskets for $12.99 to $19.99, which are sure to be great for anyone you know with a sweet tooth. Of course, they also have their standard candy aisle for you to get your sweetheart his or her favorite candy.
Neiman Marcus also has a few chocolate items, including a heart-shaped Godiva chocolate pop ($6) and a variety box of Dylan's Candy Bars ($14).
5. Stuffed Animals
Stuffed animals are great gifts for people of all ages, especially if you find one that is the receiver's favorite animal. Every year they manage to get more elaborate, with animatronics and music built-in.
Ladue Florist has a variety of them for $12.50 each, including an elephant wearing a heart that says, "I love you TONS." The most adorable one, though, is a white teddy bear wearing a bib that says "My First Valentine," making it the perfect gift for a baby who is celebrating his or her first Valentine's Day.
Monkeys seem to be popular stuffed animals this year, as both Fannie May ($14.99) and Neiman Marcus ($36, they play music) have adorable ones for sale.
6. Watches
Watches always seem to be a standard Valentine's Day gift, especially for men. With all the different styles of watches, you are sure to find one that will be perfect for your significant other.
Neiman Marcus is on-trend with a men's rose gold Orefici watch ($795). At Saks, men's manager Mel Pashea suggested a red-detailed Swiss Army watch ($625) and a tan and orange-banded Burberry watch ($595). For women, Saks is featuring a variety of white and black Michele Tahitian jelly bean watches ($295-$345).
7. Perfume or Cologne
Area stores offer a variety of fragrances that are sure to keep your significant other smelling good.
For women, Neiman Marcus is highlighting the Love, Chloe perfume ($85-110). They also have Clive Christian fragrances for men and women ($375 each), which are popular gifts for Valentine's Day.
At Saks Fifth Avenue, the Bond No. 9 fragrances are popular for women and men. They have women's perfumes such as Chinatown, Saks Fifth Avenue and Scent of Pearl for $215-$220. For men, the Bond No. 9 Wall Street scent ($160) is popular, in addition to the line of Kilian colognes ($225, or $125 for a refill).
8. Cute or Clever Valentine Cards
Whether you're trying to keep it simple by just getting a card or need a card to go along with the rest of your gift, stores in Ladue and Frontenac have a wide variety to choose from for your valentine.
Ken Miesner's has a selection of vintage-style valentines that come in packs of 15 for $9.99, which is perfect for those who like to share the love with all of the people they hold dear.
Schnucks and Ladue Florist also have a variety of cards that you can choose from for your valentine.
9. Canine Valentines
This Valentine's Day, don't forget about your four-legged sweethearts. Treats Unleashed at Ladue Crossing has them covered with a variety of adorable treats for $1.25 each. They're also running a "Canine Valentine" special that includes a can of gourmet dog food that's called "Love Potion No. 9" and a customized dog treat for $6.50 (with a small treat) or $8.25 (with a large treat).
10. V-Day PJs
Pajamas with cute Valentine's Day prints make for perfect fun family gifts.
Neiman Marcus has a good selection of styles for women, including a Tokyo Rose pair ($85) that has heart designs on the top and words such as "Love" and "Hugs" printed on the bottoms.
Of course there are boundless options available for gifts out there, so here are a few bonus ideas: Valentine's Day-themed home decor, men's accessories (such as wallets, sunglasses and cuff links), cute pink or red dresses for little girls, a bottle of wine and, finally, a romantic dinner (either in or out).
