The season did not end the way the St. Joseph's Academy Angels softball team had planned it.

They ran into a hornets nest Saturday in regional competition at C&H  Ballpark in St. Peter's, losing to Francis Howell of St. Charles, 10-0. Howell with a 20-8 record advances to the state quarterfinals with the victory.

The St. Joe season comes to a halt at 14-9. It was still a good year for JP Cummings team with a variety of bright spots. The 13-3 win the previous game over Hazelwood West in the sectional championship was a big one.

The Angel bats went comatose at the wrong moment. They managed just 2 hits in a 5-run abbreviated game. Theresa DeCosty recorded an inside the park homerun in the first inning to get the Vikings on the board.

Emily Weible was the pitcher of record for St. Joe. Payton Wilson picked up the win on the hill for Howell.
