Ladue Horton Watkins Says Goodbye To the Class of 2012
Nearly 300 in the class of 2012 graduate, then go to a wide variety of celebrations.
Undoubtedly, this was the big story of the week. Ladue moved its graduation ceremonies indoors due to an imminent threat of rain. None the less, the annual convocation was a big hit for students, family, friends and faculty. Here's one more look back.
Beach balls were bouncing from student to student. Graduation caps were flying into the air. Automobiles were literally racing off the parking lot. It was almost over before it began.
Ladue’s 60th graduation ceremonies is in the books. For the third-consecutive year, the ceremonies were moved from Rams Stadium into the Nielson Gym because of a threat of stormy weather. Principal Bridgett Hermann stayed glued to the national weather website for almost 24 straight hours.
Lucky for planners, because the heavens opened up with a down pour, minutes before the class of 2012 marched from the back of the room to their seats in a fully-packed gymnasium.
All the pomp and ceremony went off flawlessly. At the out start, Hermann had to have all the students re-arrange their seating order to coincide with the presentation of diplomas.
Even with a ticket distribution policy in force, it seemed like everyone found a place to sit, with even a few empty spaces in the far corners of the balconies.
Otherwise, graduation 2012 went without a hitch.
Sayli Milind Sant delivered the welcome to graduates, faculty, school board and collective parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and all.
Caleb Ellis, who is headed to Duke University delivered the class address to his fellow students.
Then Lucas Tamaren, who is heading to South California University presented the class gift, some benches for the court yard area.
A musical presentation by senior members of the Chorale sang Paul Simon’s “Bridge over Troubled Waters” under the director of Thomas Lowery.
Jayne Langsam, school board president delivered the charge then one by one students strode across the stage to receive their diplomas. A few interludes included a little shake ‘n bake, some high fives and other modern era greetings. When Erin Leigh Zoeller got her diploma, the presentation was over.
The Class of 1962 returns to the Rams football field on Sept. 22 to celebrate its 50th reunion in the fall.

Lucas Tamaren is heading to the University of Southern California, as in the Trojans, next year. And the class gift was not merely a set of benches, it is a memorial to the late Gert Von Gontard, a classmate who passed just last year. It will be a small garden outside the school cafeteria near the entrance of the school.
