John Burroughs had not lost a single game in a season that began way back on November 27 when they opened with a 51-21 win over Metro High at the Matthews-Dickey Boys Club.
The Bombers ran off the first 14 games of the season with victories, the longest win streak in the modern era, and certainly during the tenure of Steve Wilcutt.
The streak is over.
The host Bombers dropped a 63-57 decision to (14-2) Crossroads in a non-league game last night.
Down by as many as 13 in the first half, the Bombers battled back behind the scoring of their senior guard Mr. Everything Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott poured in 23 points; 20 coming in the second half. He was pretty much unstoppable driving the lane.
But junior Trevor Clay had a game for the ages, scoring 25 for the Current. Crossroads won all four games this week, counting wins over Kennedy, Valley Park and St. Pius X of Festus plus Burroughs.
Sunday, the Patch will have full details, photos and interviews with both coaches. More to come tomorrow on the Ladue-Frontenac Patch.
