Dozens of parents, faculty and alumni of St. Joseph's Academy celebrated the school under clear blue skies and mild weather at the school's fifth annual "Celebrate at Sunset" event on Monday.

The golf-and-games event was at Sunset Country Club in Sunset Hills and raises money for the St. Joseph's Academy Parent Scholarship Fund.

This fund assists students who lose their primary tuition-paying parent while attending our school. A portion of the proceeds also goes to the alumna association and the school's athletic department. Last year's event rose $25,000, according to organizer Emily Mahon.

The event involves a silent auction, a bridge tournament, a nine- and 18-hole golf tournament — but the highlight might be the ball drop, featuring school principal Sister Pat Dunphy, who is lifted 60 feet above a green.

She dropped 223 balls, purchased by patrons of the tournament for $20 each or $50 for three. The ball that lands closest to the hole wins half the kitty. This year, Bob and Diane Schneider were the winners of the ball drop. Check out our pictures of the event.
