St. Louis is going nuts literally over Torte and the Rally Squirrel as the Cardinals vie for a 2011 World Series berth.
With a win under their belts on the road, all attention turns to the three-game home series at Busch Stadium starting Wednesday night.
Locals are bonkers over the prospects.
The big Stan Musial statue outside Lester's has moved to its new location in the Central West End but a smaller version will stand guard over the revelers continuing through the series.
According to Dani Salas, manager at Lester's, everyone is fired up and ready to go.
"We have 64 TVs including two in the men's room so no one will miss a single play," Salas said. "We had a huge, spirited crowd in here Friday night for the game."
Lester's features appetizer specials ala toasted ravioli or spicy wings but no squirrel meat on the menu.
"We have Bud Lite drafts for $3 and Cards fans showing a game ticket stub will get a 20 percent discount."
Sportman's Park has drink and food specials for the game, and spokesperson Sharon Rezle is sure the place will be packed.
"We're not doing any special decor. We are all Cardinals all the time anyway," she said.
A special squirrel
Meanwhile Rally Squirrel tee-shirts and embroidered caps are flying off the shelves at SportsPrint in Ferguson. Business owner Ralph Rockamann, a Ladue resident, is a veteran of many of these overnight production campaigns. "We've sold thousands of tee shirts already," he said.
Proceeds benefit Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children. Tee shirts are $14.99 and caps $15 and customers can purchase them from their show rooms in Ferguson at 6197 Bermuda Rd. or 211 S. Main in O'Fallon, MO.
The Rally Squirrel is definitely taking St. Louis by storm this time around, with rumors flying.
SportsPrint had to hire six temporary workers just to keep up with the demand for these shirts. Read more here in the Business Journal.
