Patrons Get Sneak Peek of Saks Fifth Avenue Renovation
The renovation will bring new shoe brands and designers to St. Louis.
Tonight, the newly renovated Saks Fifth Avenue store at Plaza Frontenac will host a private event showing some of the store’s new features.
The first phase of the $5 million renovation will include a redesigned interior and will double the size of the shoe department, according to a March St. Louis Business Journal article.
The store will also bring new brands, such as Manolo Blahnik and Miu Miu shoes, Diane von Furstenberg and Alexander McQueen handbags, and Rebecca Minkoff and Milly apparel, according to a St. Louis Post Dispatch article.
According to a release about the renovation, the changes will bring a "New York point of view to St. Louis.”
“St. Louis was ready for it,” said Doug Moss, the store's general manager, quoted in a St. Louis Posted Dispatch article about the store. “Our customers – they travel and shop everywhere. Now we're just providing them the opportunity to come in and touch and feel it here. I think St. Louisans are very loyal to St. Louis and they'd rather do business here.”

I think Saks is going to be very sorry when Obama is re-elected and the shoppers are gone. My BF lives in Santa Barbara, one of the wealthiest communities in the country, and the Saks there is suffering. She said it was empty in 2008 and has barely come back. Obama intends to re-distribute the wealth and that is not going to be good for Saks or any other high end retailers. Obama wants to punish the shoppers- except Michelle of course. Why is it that low-wage voters don't understand that if you steal from the rich, you will lose your jobs. Our economy benefits from having wealthy people from shopping to home improvements to donations to charitable causes. I do not understand states like Florida or Nevada that depend on travelers and their dollars who will vote for Obama and destroy their economies. You can't fix stupid I guess.

Carol, lets see if this is right. You want Saks to stay strong for the wealthiest of shoppers. How about Target or Walmart, do they count too? Bet you've never been in the North End outlet mall in Las Vegas where 90 percent of shoppers were Hispanic. You would be staring at the future of this country, like it or not.

I am going to be buried at Plaza Frontenac. That way, at least I will know my wife and daughter will visit my grave.

I am mightily disappointed in Flyoverland. Where the heck is your commentary about class war fare and the elections?

Thanks, Carol. To compensate for their shopping expeditions, I buy my clothes at Sam's and Costco. I can't wait for their remodeling soiree. Maybe they will give away free pretzels or hotdogs. They say you can't take it with you, so what the heck. My wife has promised me I can take it with me. She says she will write a check for my entire net worth and throw it into my casket right before they inter me near the entrance to Saks, or Neiman's, which ever one gives her the most points.

Jim, I am disappointed an editor of a news media is showing his Obama bias. Carol, someone should coin the phrase " Obama Zombie".

Ditto Jo, pretty creepy scary stuff. Even worse is this from his bio "I'm a registered Democrat and I feel very strongly about liberal issues," gee like I couldn't guess.
Sad was the incoherent babling that he posted. I honestly had no idea what he was saying. That was really odd for a so-called journalist but not the first time that I got a response from a lib that was incohernet. You should try Don Corrigan at the Webster Kirkwood Times - whew!

I know Jim personally and he is a great guy. We just do not see eye to eye on political issues and I have always found journalistic bias bothersome.

Yeah, I know the type - real nice guys unless you disagree with them politically, and then bar the door Katie as they will let it fly. I find that a person's true character can be revealed in a political confrontation and how they treat you after that. I deal with these types on-line everyday. They think they are the nicest guys gals) in town, unless you are a conservative women, and the hatred they spew is astonishing. They act all compassionate for others - unless you are a conservative and that passion goes right out the door and turns into vile hatred.
