Ladue-Frontenac Patch teams up with neighboring Patch sites each week to round up events and happenings in the area. Here are our picks for this week.

Monday, Apr. 30.

• Mixed-media artist Arlene Ligori’s fine art pieces will be on exhibit on Monday at Northwest Coffee Company in Clayton. The exhibit is free and open to the public.  
• Those who live in the Central Area of University City will be offered free spring bulk household item collection from Monday through Thursday this week. You can place up to seven household items on the curb (not in the alley). The trucks will only make one pass, so be sure to get your items out early> For additional information and to find out what kinds of items are acceptable, visit the University City website.  If you’ve missed your collection dates, you can contact the Public Works and Parks Department to schedule a pickup, but you’ll need to pay a fee.

Tuesday, May 1.

• The Ladue School District is hosting an All-District Elementary Band Concert at the Ladue High School gym on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
• In University City, the Mayor’s Task Force on University City’s Bike and Walkability will meet at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Wednesday, May 2.

• If you’re looking for a new primary care doc, you might be interested in the Pre-Summer Wellness Open House at Mercy Clinic Internal Medicine in Clayton. Dr. Kenneth Poole will host the event from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Visitors get a complimentary blood pressure screening, BMI calculation and refreshments. • If you’re an artist planning to enter your work in the Ann Metzger exhibition for an opportunity to win prizes up to $500 as well as recognition and a feature on the St. Louis Artists' Guild’s website, Wednesday is the deadling for your submissions. Those who purchase a new St. Louis Artists’ Guild membership for $65 will receive free entry for up to three pieces.  Existing SLAG members can submit up to three entries for $7 per entry. Those who wish to enter may do so online or by visiting the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in person.
• Need a little help with something you’re working on? The University City Public Library will host a computer drop-in session on Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Visit the library’s website for additional information.

Thursday, May 3.

• Thursday is the National Day of Prayer.
• The Ladue School District’s 6^th through 12^th grade percussionists will perform in concert on Thursday at Ladue High School.
• Parents of 2012-2013 Reed Elementary School kindergarteners should note that kindergarten screenings will be held Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Reed Conference Room.
• The City of Clayton’s Board of Adjustment will meet on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
• The University City Public Library’s Urban Thought Book Group will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium to discuss Octavia Butler’s Kindred. Copies of next month’s selection will also be available, and everyone’s welcome to join.
• Love a good mystery book? The Mystery Lovers’ Book Club will meet on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters in the East Room. Visit the library’s website for additional information.
• Young scientists are invited to stop by the Children’s Area at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for Curiosity Lab.

Friday, May 4.

• Heads up for parents of Ladue Middle School 8^th graders: the 8^th grade formal is Friday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Parents can contact the school for additional information.
• The Clayton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a special Shop Clayton Shops event in partnership with the City of Clayton. Participating stores will offer special deals during business hours on the first Friday of each month during the summer, beginning May 4. • Whether you’re a teen or you’re an aspiring young adult author, you’ll be interested in attending the Teen Author Panel at the St.  Louis County Library Headquarters on Friday at 7 p.m. St. Louis YA authors, including Cole Gibsen, Antony John, and Heather Brewer will discuss their inspiration and their current projects. Saturday, May 5.

• Saturday is Cinco de Mayo. While it’s not officially a holiday in the United States, it’s celebrated throughout the country, including the St. Louis Metro area.
• The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Metropolitan St. Louis Chapter is celebrating its 25^th annual Mother’s Day Brunch at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis-Clayton hotel on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The organization will award scholarships to women 30 years of age and older at the brunch. This year’s honorees include Sandra Moore, Rebecca Bennett, Danielle McPherson, Kendall Gladen and the National Sales Network St. Louis Chapter. • The City of Clayton is holding its second annual Clayton Community Day on Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Center of Clayton. Guests will be greeted by Mayor Goldstein and the Aldermen, who will also distribute information of interest to Clayton residents. Admission to the Center is free during the event, and refreshments and crafts for the kids will be provided. Plus, get a free gift bag with giveaways and more. Additionally, the fire department’s ladder truck, a police squad car and the Public Works bucket truck will be on display in the parking lot.
• The City of Richmond Heights is joining the City of Maplewood for the Tons of Transportation event on Saturday at Deer Creek Park in Maplewood from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids of all ages can participate in the outrood, interactive and imaginative adventure. You can see police cars, bull-dozers, firetrucks and more. You can even touch, explore and even sit in the driver’s seat, if you like. • The St. Louis County Health Department is holding a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection event on Saturday. Visit the City of University City’s website for details on locations and acceptable materials.
• Who doesn’t love a free comic book? If you or someone you love would appreciate one, you can visit the St. Louis County Library Headquarters on Saturday to receive a free comic book while supplies last. One per person, all ages welcome. The freebies will be available in the Children’s/Teen Area.

Sunday, May 6.

• In Ladue, the 2012 5K Family Fun Run & 1 Mile Wellness Walk will be held at John Burroughs School on Sunday. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the race starts at 10. Partcipation will cost $20 for adults and $10 for students, but kids 6 years and younger can participate free. Strollers are welcome and snacks will be provided. The proceeds will benefit the St. Louis Crisis Nursery. For more information, contact Ebonee at ebonee@crisisnurserykids.org. You can also get more details and register in advance online.
• The second annual Go Green! Clayton 5K Run is on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. till noon at Centene Stadium at Gay Field. The event is sponsored by the School District of Clayton Health & P.E. • City of Clayton officials will be on hand at Starbucks on Wydown on Sunday for Ward II coffee. Aldermen from Ward II will meet with residents to discuss topics that are affecting their neighborhoods from 4 to 5 p.m.
