No Pay, No Play: Akin TV Ads Canceled
Television ads for Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin have been canceled after Akin's campaign failed to pay the whole bill, Talking Points Memo reports.
Rep. Todd Akin is facing a new round of bad publicity today after reports have emerged that he has failed to pay for his television advertising on time.
Talking Points Memo reports that the Akin campaign’s TV ad buy with KOMU, a NBC affiliate in Columbia, was canceled.
According to KMOX, the campaign had paid the first half of the buy, but the station did not receive the other half. KOMU also said that it has confirmed that other stations have been put in the same position.
Sarah Mcadoo, an accounting assistant for KSHB-TV in Kansas City, confirmed to KOMU that Akin's ads had been pulled from their log. The Akin campaign told KOMU that the payment is forthcoming.
According to the KOMU story, Ryan Hite, campaign spokesman for Todd Akin, said:
"Our media buyers are constantly adjusting our strategy according to different media markets in Missouri. According to my understanding of this specific instance, air time was reserved, an initial payment was made, and when their ad schedule was set in stone, the other final portion of the payment is being sent tomorrow."
This follows on the heels of Akin's comments regarding legitimate rape. He has lost the financial backing of several national sources.
Conservative super PAC Crossroads GPS, founded by former Karl Rove, pulled its ads from the Missouri Senate race. Crossroads had been spending money on ads against McCaskill.

Couldn't happen to a nicer and more ineffective person.

More liberal media, desperately trying to besmirch and discredit the next Senator of Missouri. Must be a slow news day.

Don't forget the liberal accounting assistants. They're out to besmirch and discredit the next Senator of Missouri, too.

It's like the bookkeepers have a way of "shutting that whole thing down."

Federal law is clear - candidates must pay for ads in advance 60 days and less up to a general election and pay in advance 45 days and less up to a primary election. Stations get that money up front by law because from the same FCC law - stations have to charge the lowest rate the station bills per daypart (candidates now can actually get ads on the air overnight for $5-$10 bucks a pop on some stations).

He gets shut down for not paying and you blame democrats. His donations plummet and republicans beg him to drop out for opening his mouth. You blame the democrats. Screw your speeches of personal accountability...its those darn democrats! Brilliant.

But he's not out of the race, he can still win this thing. Yeah. He's clearly living in some alternate reality. One where the word "Senator" will appear in front of his name.

I think it is very clear that we the people are not supporting the GOP but rather the candidate. The conservatives are being heard and will make the current GOP ineffective if in fact Karl Rove and his kind smeer a elected man. Prayer is very powerful and in fact that will be what saves our country. The good old boy club of the GOP embarrassed themselves and they are fading.

You're going to pray him into office? God help us.

Why don't all the loyal Missouri Republicans who love Akin and hate women chip in the cash so he can run his ads?
Or why don't Romney, Ryan, Rove, Limbaugh, Adelson, the Kochs, Lady Schlafly, and the rest of the right-wing gang pony up and pay Akin's bills?
"Shutting that whole thing down" by not supporting him when it counts seems such a cruel way to treat a fellow GOP who speaks what they all believe.

Republicans definitely do NOT believe what Akin spewed forth. If you had read the news before you posted, you would know that several key Republicans have already told Akin he should take a hike. If one is going to run for a lofty office such as U.S. senator, try being a bit more articulate. This guy hurt himself pretty bad.

Todd Akin is a Congressman all Missouri can be ashamed of. In another thirty days Akin will realize he self-distructed several weeks ago, too late for someone else to wage a reasonable campaign. It has always been "all about Akin", especially so now. Akin has always been an ineffective Representative, representing only fellow wing-nuts and wackos in my District. Now the entire country knows what a reprehensible, selfish, and bat-shit crazy person he is. One wonders how John Burroughs School can hold their head up with Akin as a graduate...

Let's remember that what Mr. Akin said about rape and abortion has also been stated by Paul Ryan.

Oh? Please link a reference to a video of him saying that. Non-referenced statements like this fall under the category, "My opinion is a fact."
