With softball season over, our top candidates this week come from some of the area's best football, volleyball, field hockey, and tennis teams.
Athletes from each of the area's local high schools, Burroughs, Ladue, MICDS, Villa, and St. Joe are represented in this week's Patch MVP "Athlete of the Week" poll.
The voting is now open, and will remain so until 5 p.m. Thursday. The winner will be announced and featured on Patch on Sunday.
This week's Patch MVP "Athlete of the Week" candidates are:
Matthew Hooper, Ladue football.
The Rams' junior quarterback had perhaps his best game of the season so far, completing 18-of-23 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns in his team's huge 49-6 win over Jennings Saturday afternoon at the Ramming Athletic Center.
Taylor Revling and Ellie Bisig, St. Joe tennis.
The Angels' dynamite duo took third in the MSHSAA Class 2 Girls Tennis Doubles Tournament last weekend in Springfield. Revling and Bisig also helped St. Joe win its 15th state championship.
Chris Wetzel, John Burroughs soccer.
The starting goalkeeper for the Bombers, Wetzel has posted shutouts in each of his club's last four wins.
Meghan Donovan, Villa Duchesne volleyball. One of the top freshmen in the area, Donovan was dynamite in a pair of Saints' wins over Belleville Althoff and Cor Jesu Academy last week. The 6'1 setter and defensive whiz totaled 55 assists and 15 blocks for a Villa team that goes into districts as the No. 1 seed in the Class 3 District 5 playoffs.
Bridget Condie, MICDS field hockey. Another talented freshmen, who leads the Rams with 12 goals and eight assists this season. Last week, she had two goals and three assists in MICDS' exciting victories over Edwardsville and Notre Dame de Sion.
