Moms Talk: Can Cardinals and Kids' Classwork Coexist?

How should St. Louis parents manage baseball madness internally?

This week, we're asking parents to tell us how they'll manage St. Louis Cardinals fever among their youngsters.

The World Series games start at 7 p.m. each night, but first pitch doesn't occur until around 7:20 p.m. or later. And your elementary school-age children want to stay up on school nights and watch the games.

So onto this week's question: What are your rules for the road? Must all homework be done first? Can they do homework while watching the games?

About this column: Each week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions. Related Topics: Baseball, Parenting, and St. Louis Cardinals

Absolutely!! These games are memories in the making! They have all weekend to sleep.

Unless they have an afterschool activity, I will make sure homework is done before the game. That makes watching a lot more fun.

Go Cardinals!!!

Homework must be done first. I'll probably let my guys stay up a little later than normal, but they're still going to have to be in bed by 8:30 or so. They can listen to the game on the radio as they fall asleep. It's too hard to get them up in the morning (and they're far too cranky) otherwise.

Use the games as teaching moments. You can integrate, math, statistics, prediction, cause and effect, physics, weather, etc. If you view it as a privilege, ask them to give something else up in order to watch. These are real life lessons. Seize the opportunity.

I can't stay up that late. But seriously: the Cards in the World Series is a very big deal, so we will make exceptions to our usually very consistent bedtime routine. Go Cardinals-we love you!!!
