Mayor Anthony Bommarito Declines to Run for Re-Election. Nancy Spewak Will Run However

Councilwoman Nancy Spewak said she is running for the Ladue mayor's seat in the April 2 elections.

Mayor Anthony "Tony" Bommarito announced at the regularly-scheduled meeting of the Ladue City Council that he would not seek a second term.

Bommarito has served one term as mayor and 10 years on the Ladue City Council.

"I've enjoyed serving the city (of Ladue) but I do not want to run for a second term and I wanted to make sure there is enough time for someone else to file (for this office)," he said.

Bommarito won a spirited election in a landslide over newcomer Mary Berner just two years ago. Bommarito took the reins from retired Mayor Irene Holmes.

Bommarito said after the council meeting that the city was facing new challenges and wished he could have accomplished more.

"The council needs new life," Bommarito said, without elaborating.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Nancy Spewak confirmed she is running for the mayor's seat in the upcoming election. Spewak, however, did not comment further on her intentions after the meeting due to an executive session that was about to begin.

The Ladue-Frontenac Patch will report more details of this decision as they come to light.
