Ladue's Don Goble Family Takes Drastic Measures to Deal With Cancer

Emily Goble is approaching radical breast and ovarian treatment voluntarily to try and beat the odds.

Revised: A question has been raised about the condition of the Goble's son Terry, soon to be 7 in March. He is doing just fine.

Ladue High's video coordinator/instructor Don Goble and family have struggled with very serious forms of cancer concerninf his wife Emily. Of course their six year old son is pulling hard for his mom too.  Emily has had complex surgery, and there is more uncertainy ahead. This is the way the story has been told:

Yoga teacher, mother, wife, former corporate employee, Emily Goble tested positive for both breast cancer and ovarian cancer genetics. Because her mother has struggled with eight different types of cancer over 25 years and Goble was 87 percent likely to get breast cancer and a highly increased risk for ovarian, she voluntarily opted for a double mastectomy and will soon be undergoing a voluntary hysterectomy. Check out the Inner Visions, Outer Triumphsvideo for more on her extraordinary journey. The article below focuses on Goble’s yoga teaching and the support her students offered her through the process.

This is the entire story as found in Admin on the Live Stonewear website.

The hopes and prayers are with the Goble family from everyone at Patch.com as they continue their journey in life seeking better health.

This is Emily Goble's own website.

Note: The article linked has some factual errors. 90 percent was never stated. It should have said "highly increased risk. Also, their son Terry is not 12 years old. Rather he will be seven in March.

They are a super, wonderful family, and need everyone's prayers. If you knew Don Goble, he's a prince.

Emily, I just learned of this through the Patch. Your family, friends and your inner strength will define these moments. I am thinking of you. I also have a friend who went through these same prophylactic measures recently. If you need a reference, she's fantastic.

Because of how the article was worded, there's been a few curious questions about Terry's health status too. Don Goble reports he is doing just fine.

To clarify....Terry is NOT sick. My surgeries were December 2010 and March 2011, so I'm far into my recovery. I do plan to have surgery to lower my risk for ovarian. My Mom has had cancer 5 times (not 8) and 3 of her bouts were forms of ovarian. I am very well, and simply thankful that I had (and have) the choice to take action. I would love to be a resource for women considering this path for themselves. Thank you for all the sweet comments.
