Ladue-Frontenac Patch Presents the 3rd Annual Swim All-Stars

Top performers this season came from MICDS, Burroughs, St. Joe and Ladue

The Ladue-Frontenac Patch proudly presents the Swim All-Stars for 2013. All of these stars finished 16th or better in individual events or relays at the 38th annual swim championships at the Rec Plex in St. Peters last month.

By school, here are the stars and their top performances:

MICDS Rams

The Rams took 6th in team competition overall with 125 points. Kat Friese won the area’s only gold medal, first place in one-meter diving with 188.60 points in 11 dives.

Senior Trey Ross had the areas top Metro Honor Roll time in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:05.93 this year.

The Rams quartet of Geneva Lee, Ross, Masha Podokshik and Lily Reisinger were dominant in relays.

The Rams took fourth in the 200 yard individual medley at the state meet (1:51.23), and fifth at state with the same four in the 400 yard freestyle relay. (3:36.79).

Ross took a third at state in the 100 yard backstroke in 57.65. Reisinger was 12th in the 100 yard freestyle at state in 53.99.

John Burroughs Bombers

This was an exceptional year for newcomer, freshman Maddie Wessell of John Burroughs. The 15-year-old was second in the 200 yard IM championship event in 2:05.93. She also captured second in the 100 yard freestyle in 52:00, losing to senior by a half second.

Wessell led all St. Louis swimmers this year in several events. She produced the top time in the area in the 200 IM and the 100 free. She was in the top six in the 50 free; 100 back, 100 breaststroke and the 100 free.

Burroughs other All-Star is freshman Barrett Carlson who swam on the 11th place 200 yard freestyle relay at state.

St. Joseph’s Academy Angels

The Angels’ strongest swimmer and an All-Star is junior Grace Stiegemeyer. The Angels captured 10th place in team scores with 90 points.

Stiegemeyer, a junior took third at state in the 200 yard freestyle finals with a time of 1:53.67. She was 5th in the 500 yard state freestyle in 5:04.90.

On the Metro Honor Roll, Steigemeyer was second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.67) and fourth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:04.90).

Charlotte Cordova, a junior made the All-Star team with a 10th place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (24.74).

Cordova and Stiegemeyer were on St. Joe’s 200 yard freestyle relay which captured second in the state meet in 1:39.09. They were the defending state champs in that event.

Ladue Rams

Christine Yan, a sophomore made the All-Star team by taking 12th at state in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.60.
