Burger King's New Bacon Sundae: Too Much Bacon or Not Enough?

Does Burger King's new Bacon Sundae cross the line at a time when American obesity is among its highest? Or are you a fan of the new tasty treat?

For those who've been clamoring for years that they need delicious ice cream treat that included bacon, the wait is over.

Burger King, which operates dozens of restaurants in the St. Louis-area, unveiled its summer menu on Thursday. Among the new items is the restaurant's new Bacon Sundae

That's right. Ice cream. Chocolate sauce. And, of course, bacon.

The sundae, according to Esquire, sells for $2.49 and up, contains 510 calories and consists of vanilla soft-serve ice cream, chocolate sauce, and caramel sauce, with crumbled bits of bacon on top and "a thick-cut, hardwood-smoked bacon garnish."

From the Esquire article

Without a doubt, the sundae's most salient visual feature is its swine garnish, which protrudes from the dish of soft-serve in a manner recalling the Iwo Jima Memorial, the feather in Yankee Doodle's cap, or something else equally proud and American (surely this, and its very debut on Flag Day, were fully intentional). Without the bacon twist, it would be easy for the causal observer to dismiss the dish as nothing more than your standard meat-free dessert sundae. But I can assure you that, should you be carrying this sundae down Sixth Avenue in Manhattan at 9:30 on a Thursday morning, that tall bacon flag will really turn heads."

As predicted, the new treat was met with its fair share of criticism by some health advocates, the Huffington Post reports.

What do you think? Is Burger King crossing a line with its new Bacon Sundae? Or is the Bacon Sundae as American as it gets? Would you order the Bacon Sundae if given the opportunity?

Yuck...my friend Troy did this with his chocolate shake and some of his bacon about 10 years ago. He loved it. Did it every time we got shakes and a side of bacon. But, I still say YUCK!
